Geological monuments
Geological monuments are large or special geosites, like the Christ Redeemer or Iguassu Falls. They are landscapes, mountains, waterfalls or parks that impress by their beauty and cultural importance.
The monuments are tourist attractions and most of the time, they are big challenges in order to be preserved. These places need an effective management and a proper visitation plan as they are normally imposing in the landscape because of their geological importance. They are also didactics examples of geological process.
The monuments are the most precious geological heritage of a country and, in terms of tourist numbers, they can generate revenue comparable to the revenue of many minings.
